Can You Be Creative and Not Know It?
Can you be an artist and not know it?
One of the most creative people I know is Isa Austen, a painter, photographer, model and florist in West Seattle who says she only realized in her 70s that she is truly an artist.
In this video interview, I explore with Isa what it means to be creative. It's all about attitude, she says.
"I feel incredible to be 72, and every day I feel more creative," Isa says. "Everybody out there that thinks they're too old, you're not."
Of course, it's not just about attitude.
Isa started her artistic career as a fashion model in New York City. She took up photography when she moved west in her 30s.
She has always been an artist but what has clicked for her now is discovering that a key to her creativity is simply being open to inspiration.
“I get up in the morning, I walk along the street, and I'll see something that inspires me,” Isa says. “A couple of years ago, I would have been, ‘Oh, I'll just forget about that.’”
“Now it's amazing because every day I find something that inspires me, and I actually do something with it,” she adds.
