When Is Your Abstract Painting Finished?

I see a lot of people on social media asking others who follow them, "Do you think this is finished?" But that's not a decision for others to make. Only you can ultimately make that decision. So trust yourself.

To make your painting successful it's important to have enough variety in all the different areas, including color, value, and design. Differences in these areas are what holds the viewer’s interest.

The more variety you have, the better and the more interesting it is to the human eye.

Does your painting have enough variety in color? Even neutral paintings need variations in color to engage viewers.

Does your painting have enough variety of design? Does it have open shapes, closed shapes, big, small?

Another thing I'll look for is is it static or dynamic? Does the painting guide the viewers’ eyes?
