Painting in Pieces

Having trouble composing a large painting?  Think small.

Working in a series of smaller pieces is not only fun but it's a great way to build a larger work.

In today’s video I’m going to demonstrate how I use collage to create four small pieces and then arrange them in several ways on a canvas to have either one final painting or use them as inspiration for another piece.

Fast and easy are the key concepts here.

Quickly putting together a collection of smaller pieces gives spontaneity and energy to a larger piece.

And along the way, you're likely to find new color combinations that you are drawn to and will want to use in a future work.

Try this out and let me know what you create.
