While there are many ideas about how to give your painting depth, using many layers is the answer for me.
Adding and subtracting over and over again not only gives tremendous depth, but also exciting unexpected surprises in a painting.
Putting things the painting, then painting over them multiple times gives the painting an intriguing sense of mystery.
A successful painting to me is one that draws the viewer in from a distance and then engages their interest close up.
Not being able to really “see” all the nuances in the painting in a quick glance is how the painting and the viewer have a conversation.
In today’s video I’m going to demonstrate how I layer bright over light, and then light again.
I think you will be intrigued.
