Frame Your Painting With…Space

11/05/2020

There are a million ways to create art.

A while ago I was making some pieces, both paintings and collages that I loved, but that I thought they were too small.

As you know, I love experimenting and reinventing so I looked around my studio and asked myself, “What can I do with this small piece to make it seem grander?”

I started digging in all the places that just had things kind of stacked up, and found a piece of really large white paper.

Okay, this might work.

So I laid the paper down on the floor of my studio and then put the small pieces on top and spread them out to be able to have some space around them.

That’s when the idea came to me.

Why not attach these pieces in the middle of a larger paper, canvas, or board?

That way it will sort of frame them.

Done! I loved them!

In this video you’ll watch me take a painting that I originally glued something on, but that I didn’t like.

I will totally redo it and create an abstract painting filled with lots of layers.

This one is a neutral painting with whites and beiges.

AND this one that has the original paper glued in the center with large, open spaces around it.

I hope you watch and please comment and let me know what you think.

Have you ever done one like this?
