Sometimes a painting isn’t “working” and you’re not sure why. Is the composition unbalanced? Is
there too much yellow? Is there not enough contrast?
Much of the work an artist does involves creative problem solving and becoming adept at problem
solving will lower your frustration and help you develop your painting skills more quickly.

Creative problem solving can seem risky if you make judgments in advance about potential tions. Be
open, kind, and patient with yourself as you problem solve.
Developing problem-solving skills takes practice. The more you give yourself permission to
outside-the-box, the stronger that muscle will be and the easier the process will become.
